The Book of Negroes | 10/10 - | 2 reviews |

| | Author: Lawrence Hill Genre: Historical FictionThis novel is a riveting saga of one woman's struggle from slavery to freedom. Although this is a novel it is based on historical facts and I was engrossed in the story from the first page to the last. Many parts of the book were hard to read but I believe that we have to learn about man's inhumanity to man in order to prevent these periods in history from happening again. I would absolutely recommend that everyone read the story of Aminato Diallo. Reader: Elaine Rated: 10/10 Review submitted on: August 19 2009
This brilliant novel follows the life story of Aminata Diallo, who as an 11 year old was taken into slavery in Africa and survived the sea-voyage to America.
She tells of years of slavery, using her mind to gain a better life for herself and her eventual freedom. We follow her around the world, through her many trials and tribulations, as she tries to return to her place of birth.
While there are sections of the book that are difficult to read, Hill richly recreate this dark time in human history. Reader: Allison Rated: 10/10 Review submitted on: January 26 2009

Remarkable Creatures | 10/10 - | 1 review |

| | Author: Tracy Chevalier Genre: Historical FictionThis was an INCREDIBLE book. It followed the lives of two women, different in age, class, and priorities. The two of them are friends who experience the life of finding fossils together. The characters are lovable and they go through conflicts and challenges that tear them apart and bring them back together. The details of the scenery and the location, Lyme Regis, are breath taking and consume the reader in the environment. There are trying love affairs and science discoveries that over step that boundary for women of this time. It's a fantastic read and I was sad when I was finished with it. Straight into Darkness | 10/10 - | 1 review |

| | Author: Faye Kellerman Genre: Historical FictionI was not sure that I was prepared to look into this walk back into 1920s Germany, but I was glad that I did. An everyday homicide inspector is confronted with solving a series of hideous murders, against the wishes of his superiors. The characters are exciting, interesting, sad, devious and extremely well developed. It's not a look at Nazi Germany, it's a look at Germany during many changes. I couldn't put it down. I was educated, fascinated, and stunned. It got to me. Reader: Suethebookworm57 Rated: 10/10 Review submitted on: June 12 2008

The Apple
Penelope J. Holt
Lies are commonly condemned, but they can make good stories
nonetheless. "The Apple" is a novel based on the fabricated story of
Herman Rosenblat, a Holocaust survivor whose story is criticized for
being fabricated. Dramaticizing his tale, Penelope J. Holt takes an
idea that warmed the hearts of millions and crafts a solid novel. "The
Apple" is an intriguing and riveting, if sad, tale of survival through
atrocity. Reader: YHPpromoter11 Rated: 10/10 Review submitted on: December 03 2009
