The Book Thief8.9/10 - 4 reviews
 The Book Thief
Author: Marcus Zusak
Genre: Historical Fiction
An extraidinary book. It was a dit dull at some points but it's a great book. I loved it that Death was narrating! Also all the characters were really good and belonged.

I loved this! It's so touching.
The poor orphaned girl is so strong and so smart... I loved all the characters; they all fit perfectly into the story. I also love how this was narrated by Death. That's perfect, too. I'm at a loss for words here.
Stunning.

Twilight8.8/10 - 17 reviews

A good book especially if your a teenager. The story is spellbinding with it's teasingly gorgeous characters like Edward and the Cullens. A must read if you are a fan of the rest of the novels.

The Catcher in the Rye8.8/10 - 5 reviews
 The Catcher in the Rye
Author: J.D. Salinger
Genre: Classics
This is quite possibly my favorite book. I burned through this story so fast, it was like watching a movie. Holden was an intriguing character who I most of the time felt sorry for. The book was very entertaining and Salinger just has a different style to his writing, it's great.

I'm not quite sure how to rate this. There were many parts I liked, such as the seemingly accurate descriptions of a depressed boy's thoughts, the symbols and motifs, and Holden's reactions to other characters. I did not like the cursing, and sometimes Holden was so negative that I could hardly stand it.
Now that I've thought about it and looked into it, I understand (to some degree) Salinger's purpose. Everything in this book is deliberate, and although that is slightly frustrating, I have to admire the author for it.
This book was so sad for me. Holden is so young to have that kind of view of adulthood and to have to have endured his brother's death and a schoolmate's suicide.
Overall, I think I liked this book. I can understand why some people don't, however.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows8.7/10 - 9 reviews
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
Author: J.K. Rowling
Genre: Science Fiction/Fantasy
The best book by far in the series, with twists and turns at almost every page with an insight into the fear and terror in Harry's world. A definite read for fans of the books.

I loved this book! I thought it was one of the best of the series. Harry, Ron and Hermione are off to find the Horcruxes. This book was so exciting. The battles, the hallows and the unexpected heroes: Neville, Dobby and Mrs. Weasley. The deaths of many of the characters very sad indeed. Great, great ending to this wonderful series.

Breaking Dawn8.7/10 - 6 reviews
 Breaking Dawn
Author: Stephenie Meyer
Genre: Science Fiction/Fantasy
A fantastic book to end the saga, as it is told by different characters points of view. Much more mature with different themes of this book. Probably one of my favorite books that I've read.

This was my favorite book in the saga. It was the perfect end to the story. You might think that it would be "too much" with the pregnancy and all, but it wasn't. I felt so desperate when I finished it and secretly wished there could be a fifth book. I could have read this in a day, but I wanted to savour every page. Magical. It had me fantasising abou what could happen next. All time favorite.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone

The first of the series is always the best. This is true in this case. It will forever remain a classic in the world of literature and the author J.K. Rowling will remain the heroine in the story in eyes of many.

Angels & Demons8.7/10 - 5 reviews
 Angels & Demons
Author: Dan Brown
Genre: Mystery and Suspense
Of all the Dan Brown books, I believe this was by far the best, followed by the Da Vinci Code. From the very first page, the novel was engrossing. And with this book, I found the twists in plot nearly impossible to predict.
The book is much better than the movie. The movie leaves out the reporter and the romance between Robert and Vittoria and makes some changes to the plot.
Highly highly recommend this book. It reads quickly and easily and is enjoyable and suspenseful the whole way through.

A great book! It may not be as good as The DaVinci Code and at some points I would have prefered it, if it was more realistic, but there 's loads of suspense and unusual twists on every page. Definetely worth reading.

One of my favorites. You begin to know each character distinctly. Kingsolver brings life to each personality. The journey of one family in the depths of the Congo are an emotional and spirited ride. A must read for those who enjoy fiction novels.

Every Second Counts8.7/10 - 3 reviews
 Every Second Counts
Author: Lance Armstrong
Genre: Biography and Memoirs
This book didn't disappoint as the follow up to the inspirational and enjoyable "It's not about the Bike".

I found the book riveting, for the most part, and couldn't tear myself away. I started it this morning, and read it throughout the day.

Like Faith I was really interested in his descriptions of the Tour de France - it did make me want to watch it, and his training for the tour. The passages about his Tour legs left me on the edge of my seat.

If I have one criticism, it's that I found some of the writing which wasn't about biking a bit wordy and repetitive. However, if I was a cancer victim or survivor I would probably find comfort and inspiration from his words.

It's worth a read, but as Sid says, I would recommend reading 'It's not about the Bike' first.

It crossed my mind that this book might be a little bit of a letdown after my reaction to his first biographical work (see my garrulous, glowing, gushing review). However, I can't really say that it was. My only real criticism is that it felt a bit disjointed at times or he glossed over some parts that I would have liked more detail on.

This guy makes me want to become a major afficinado of the Tour de France. He makes it sound so interesting (better than watching it on tv, all that insider info).

Oh, and besides cycling there's that stuff about life after cancer ;) Very interesting to hear Lance's views on spirituality, life, etc. and how he feels toward the disease and others going through battles with it.

One of the highlights of this book for me (and there were many others), was Lance's description of training for the Tour. One day he did a huge mountain climb, with a friend in a car following. Sleet etc. Get to the top, guy in car is like, thank goodness, let's get out of here. Lance feels that he doesn't "know" the mountain intimately enough and decides he's going back down to cycle back up. He does so.
Every night he emails a coach all of the data from his bike computer. The coach then emails back feedback. He gets an email saying something was wrong with the data, there were 2 sets for the big climb. Lance: yep. Pause. Coach: You didn't. Lance: yep. Pause. Coach: You sick fuck.
I loved that!

My Sister's Keeper8.5/10 - 6 reviews
 My Sister's Keeper
Author: Jodi Picoult
Genre: General Fiction
GREAT. I normally am not interested in such dramatic stories, but this one is very capturing. I t is about a girl whose soul purpose of life is to keep her sister alive as her legal donar. She soon reolizes that this is not what she wants to live like and begins to stir up her family's life with her personal decition. It is haert wrentching to be honest. In my opinion, the movie based on this book completely ruined the story. But all that matters is that it is a good book.

I too, love the way that you get a sense of how each of the characters is connected to one another, and yet get to see how differently each person sees everything. Without giving away too much, I would say that most of Jodi Picoluts' books, end with an ironic twist that brings a deeper meaning to the topic of the book itself. I couldn't put this one down, and if you're looking for a similar book by the same author, try reading "Change of Heart"

A Long Way Down8.5/10 - 2 reviews
 A Long Way Down
Author: Nick Hornby
Genre: General Fiction
Interesting book that, although it deals with thematic material around suicide, is actually fairly light and comedic in many ways.

The story revolves around 4 mostly ordinary people who have an unlikely or unexpected encounter on New Years Eve.

The style of the book was interesting, combining first person perspectives in such a way as to create the feeling both that you were an outside observer as well as sometimes getting into the characters heads.

I kept wondering how the author was going to handle the ending without ruining the book (I'd also heard from a fellow reader that they felt the end tailed off), and I think it wrapped up pretty well which was a relief (so many books I find are compromised by a poor ending).

Overall, an interesting read that seemed to me to be a commentary on everyday life, what happiness is, etc (but you could read it and enjoy it without having to get all deep like that).

It's taken me days to write this review, as I've been conflicted on what to rate this book.

I really liked the structure, which was told through the 4 main characters, each moving the story along. The characters were diverse in their ages and personalities have unique ways of experiences the same events.

Although I was pulled into the story right away, I did find that it started to weaken towards the end.

Overall, I would recommend this book which has a good message and tells the story in a unique way.

About The Author8.5/10 - 2 reviews
 About The Author
Author: John Colapinto
Genre: General Fiction
I'm not quite sure what it is about this book that I like so much, but on my second reading, years after the first, I had difficulty putting the book down.

The author writes a first person account about his inability to write a novel and the unexpected twists and turns his life takes over the next few years.

This original plot and surprisingly likable main character pull me into the richly told story of the authors life.

Interesting book - I found the concept somewhat original (plot revolves around a writer writing a book). I didn't find it impossible to put down (Stephen King and others said this about it) but it was good all the way through and I didn't find the plot obvious or overdone. Interesting turns of phrase in places contributed to the originality and the feeling of really knowing the narrator.

Around the World in 80 Dates8.5/10 - 2 reviews
Around the World in 80 Dates
Author: Jennifer Cox
Genre: Family and Relationships
I was impressed by the author's openness in telling her story about journeying around the world trying to find her "Soul Mate".
While I'd say that I'm not particularly interested in reading about other's travel experiences or anything to do with "Soul Mates" - I found this book engaging, probably because the author is likeable and you can see yourself (or other women) in her.

What a delightful read! Jennifer Cox tells of her voyage around the world to find the man of her dreams, while also finding herself along the way.

Her writing style was honest and open and allows you the reader to become part of her journey. I started this book and just kept reading, enjoying her journey, and reminising about my own travels and journey through relationships before finding Mr. Right.

This is a fun and enjoyable book.

B Is For Burglar8.5/10 - 2 reviews
 B Is For Burglar
Author: Sue Grafton
Genre: Mystery and Suspense
Elaine Boldt is missing; her sister cannot find her to sign some paperwork so she hires Kinsey Milhone. Kinsey is having trouble and wants to call the police but the sister won’t let her. Kinsey must dig hard in this one to put all of the pieces together. I found this to be a good solid mystery novel, quick to read and always keeping me guessing. I’ve read several of the Alphabet mysteries, started in the middle and decided to go back to the beginning. The character is enjoyable and well written. Sue Grafton has done a good job. I highly recommend this to mystery lovers.

This is the second of the Kinsey Millhone series. Kinsey is hired to find Elaine Boldt by her sister, Beverly. Elaine was last seen flying to Florida where she spends her winters. She seems to have disappeared along the way. While searching for Elaine, Kinsey learns of a murder that happened next door to Elaine's. Elaine was supposed to go to the police station to give a statement but disappears shortly afterward. Kinsey surmises that Elaine knew something about the murder. Kinsey stumbles on the answer to the mystery and as a result is herself in danger. The end of the book is very exciting. I recommend it.
